NIL Resource Center
Supporting Administrators, Coaches, and Student-Athletes
Welcome to the ICAA NIL Resource Center—your trusted source for guidance on Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). This platform provides comprehensive information on the history of NIL legislation, federal and state regulations, and practical resources to help ensure compliance while empowering our athletic programs and student-athletes.
The ICAA is not affiliated with third-party NIL collectives, nor do we solicit or manage funds on behalf of student-athletes.
ICAA NIL Policy
In 2022, the ICAA membership formally adopted the following NIL Policy, along with amendments to our Amateurism guidelines, to safeguard both integrity and opportunity in collegiate athletics.
24.5.7 Name, Image, and Likeness and Amateur Status
Name, Image, and Likeness
Student-athletes within the ICAA are permitted to engage in NIL activities, provided they comply with federal, state, and local laws, as well as ICAA and institutional policies.
Key requirements include:
Institutions must establish reporting procedures for NIL activities, in line with state requirements.
Student-athletes must report all NIL contracts or appearances within the timeframe mandated by state law and institutional or conference rules (e.g., 7 days prior in Pennsylvania).
Student-athletes attending institutions in states without NIL legislation must follow federal and ICAA policies.
Athletes are strongly encouraged to seek licensed professional guidance, where permitted, when entering NIL agreements.
Prohibited NIL Partnerships
Student-athletes may not profit from NIL arrangements connected to:
Adult entertainment.
Alcohol products.
Gambling, casinos, lotteries, or sports betting (including online/mobile).
Tobacco or electronic smoking products.
Controlled or illegal substances.
State or federally restricted industries (e.g., firearms, pharmaceuticals).
(Adopted 6/8/2022)
Amateurism Status
Amateurism remains a cornerstone of ICAA competition. A student-athlete will be deemed ineligible if they:
Accept payments, promises of payment, or reimbursements beyond approved NIL policy allowances.
Receive compensation for public appearances or promotions without proper NIL compliance.
Participate in events awarding cash prizes and accept earnings exceeding event registration costs.
Sign contracts committing to professional athletic participation (including national teams) without prior ICAA approval.
Enter into agreements with agents or representatives for the purpose of securing professional contracts.
Enter a professional draft.
(Adopted 6/8/2022)
Commitment to Education and Compliance
The ICAA is committed to equipping student-athletes, coaches, and administrators with clear policies and resources that ensure compliance while fostering growth opportunities through NIL. We encourage all members of our community to remain informed, proactive, and aligned with these standards to protect eligibility and uphold the values of collegiate athletics.
