ICAA MEMBER CODE OF CONDUCT 

The Independent College Athletic Association (ICAA) is dedicated to promoting a culture of integrity, respect, and excellence in collegiate athletics. Our Code of Conduct outlines the expectations and responsibilities for all member institutions, student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and support staff. This Code of Conduct is designed to ensure that all participants uphold the highest standards of behavior and contribute positively to the ICAA community. 

1. INTEGRITY AND ETHICAL BEHAVIOR 
  • Compliance with Laws and Regulations: All members must adhere to federal, state, and local laws, as well as ICAA rules and regulations. Institutions are responsible for ensuring that their programs operate within the boundaries of legal and ethical standards.
  •  Honesty and Transparency: Members are expected to act with honesty and transparency in all dealings related to athletics. This includes accurate reporting of information, truthful communication, and avoidance of any form of deception or misrepresentation. 
  • Academic Integrity: Student-athletes and member institutions must prioritize academic success and integrity. Cheating, plagiarism, or any form of academic dishonesty is strictly prohibited. 
2. RESPECT AND SPORTSMANSHIP 
  • Respect for Others: All participants in ICAA activities must treat each other with respect and dignity, regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic. Discrimination, harassment, or bullying will not be tolerated. 
  • Sportsmanship: Members are expected to promote sportsmanship and fair play in all athletic competitions. This includes respecting opponents, officials, and spectators, and maintaining self-control during games and events. 
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Encouraging a spirit of teamwork and collaboration is essential. Members should work together to achieve common goals and support each other's growth and development. 
3. RESPONSIBILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY 
  • Personal Responsibility: All individuals associated with ICAA member institutions are responsible for their actions and must be accountable for their behavior. This includes understanding and following ICAA rules and standards. 
  • Institutional Responsibility: Member institutions are responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the ICAA Code of Conduct among their student-athletes, coaches, and staff. 
  • Reporting Violations: Any suspected violations of this Code of Conduct should be reported promptly to appropriate authorities within the ICAA. Retaliation against individuals who report violations in good faith is prohibited.
4. COMMITMENT TO HEALTH AND SAFETY 
  • Athlete Welfare: The health and safety of student-athletes are paramount. Member institutions must provide adequate medical care, training facilities, and resources to support the well-being of their athletes. • Substance Abuse Prevention: The use of illegal substances, performance-enhancing drugs, or alcohol abuse is prohibited. Members must promote a drug-free environment and provide education on the risks of substance abuse. 
  • Mental Health Support: Members should prioritize mental health by providing resources and support for student-athletes and staff, encouraging open dialogue about mental health issues. 
5. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP 
  • Community Involvement: Members are encouraged to engage with their communities positively and constructively. This includes participating in community service, outreach programs, and fostering relationships with local organizations. 
  • Leadership Development: The ICAA supports the development of leadership skills among student-athletes, coaches, and staff. Members should provide opportunities for individuals to grow as leaders within their teams and communities. 
6. ENFORCEMENT AND CONSEQUENCES 
  • Enforcement: The ICAA will enforce this Code of Conduct through regular monitoring, investigations, and audits. Member institutions are expected to cooperate fully with ICAA enforcement efforts. 
  • Consequences for Violations: Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary actions, including suspension, expulsion, fines, or other penalties deemed appropriate by the ICAA. Institutions and individuals found to be in violation will have the opportunity to appeal any disciplinary decisions.
